The sooner you get in the pool the sooner you can get on with life

I was standing in the shower near the pool area talking to myself.  20 more minutes.  20 more minutes.  15.5 hours after my day started I had 20 more minutes of doing stuff before the day was over.  I forced myself to get out of the hot water and into the freezing abyss otherwise known as my pool.

The swim went well.  My wrist feels good.  I was energized by the 3 bites of roast beef sandwich I ate (scarfed) a few minutes earlier in the lobby to energize myself after my 1.5 hour spin and hours since my last meal.  It was 9:30 PM and there was no way I could swim without eating something.

During spin class I was next to two people who are not regular class attendees.  We decided we wanted to keep in touch re: races, etc. this season.  The lawyer gave me a biz card and the grad student promised to facebook me.  Ahhh...the generation gap!

I need more food.  And someone to food shop for me, read and summarize my readings, clean my apartment...

MORE TIme???

For all the ladies:  just TRY wearing two sports bras.  It's awesome.  I started doing it 2 years ago when I was 10 pounds heavier and on a different birth control pill that made my chest HUGE.  True story.  I went on the pill and then went running the next day and oh. my. god.  Ow.  Very uncomfortable.  Audrey=miserable.  I SOON threw those pills away and my chest returned to its normal size, but I still love wearing two sports bras.  (That's why I don't wear those tri-tops with built-in bras-b/c those aren't good enough alone and if I wore my normal two under the shirt I would be up to three bras and THAT would just be ridiculous.)  I'm thinking about this now b/c we're ordering school tri uniforms and I voted for a uniform without a built in top for this reason.

I am facing time problems.  As in I spend a couple of hours a day or more working out (spin class is a 2+ hour deal, maybe longer if there is a brick, then add in swimming) and then all of the working out makes me need to sleep.  All of the time.  But I need to study.

I ran in the windy weather today.  ~40 minutes.  Like most outdoor athletes I'm now obsessed with the weather.  I saw it was going to be raining in the morning so I waited until the afternoon to run.  My legs are tired.  I'm not going to lie.  Then I did a core workout.

I ate no peanuts today.  Or tuna (usually in my sushi lunch).  Day one:  check!

ITCHY!!

Corn
Soybean
Rye
Codfish
Almond
Peanut
Black Walnut
Clam
Hazelnut
English Walnut
Tuna

That's everything that made me itchy during my food allergy test (except for the Hazelnut that showed up very positively on the blood test so they didn't stick me with that food).  I knew I was allergic to stuff even before the nurse looked at the stick sites (on my back) b/c I was so itchy!!  I already knew soy made me sick.  I did not know peanuts did.  Obviously.  Since I eat peanut butter twice a day.  When I found out that I was allergic to Hazelnut (this was before the skin test) I told the doctor, okay, but just so you know, if I'm allergic to peanuts I'll die.  When the nurse gave him my results, I heard him say from down the hall:  peanuts?  But she said she'd die.  Are you sure?

What does this mean?  Nothing is 100% with these tests.  Soy makes me sick.  I don't eat it and don't have plans to.  It's in a lot of foods, and I eat those, but I don't drink soy milk or eat things with a lot of soy in them.  I'll try to avoid the nut family of foods (this does not include peanuts.  they are apparently a legume-the same family as soy).  I'll try to avoid peanuts for two weeks to see if I feel better.  I will not avoid corn.  It's in EVERYTHING.  I think I need to eat corn.  So those are the first couple of changes.

Also, I'm dying from spin class.  I can't keep up (neither can the people around me either!).  It's gotten hard.  Plus I have a long run now.  I'm working hard!!  My tri bike needs to be tweaked position-wise a bit, but it's AWESOME!!!!!  I was also wearing my trailer park socks.  I thought they had cute school buses on the sides when I bought them-but the bottoms of them say "trailer trash."  My bad.

Wrist improving? Kind of.

I thought my 20 minute swim was going so well-until at 19 minutes my wrist started to ache :(  Oh well.  More vitamin I and limiting my computer time as much as possible remain in my future.  It's not too bad though.  I have some sort of school triathlon meeting tonight with the administration.  All of the club sports teams have to send a representative.  We're also working on obtaining uniforms and sponsors, as well as sending a couple of people to Nationals.  Other than that...I think I need a cookie.

My new ride

That's not my price tag, but that's my new ride.

s

I was getting dressed for a long run of ~6.5 miles around noon and realized I was missing my gloves and ear headband thingy.  A quick call to the bike shop confirmed i left them there after my brick on Thursday.  So i used some back-up gloves and a head thingy I hate and they got the job done.  It's about 30 degrees here. Sorry I don't have more interesting things to report.  I can also add that this map, that every Boston-area runner uses, is WRONG.  The distances and loops just don't add up.  Specifically, there's something off around the BU bridge.

Swimming.  Tomorrow.  Hand is not feeling 100%, but MUCH MUCH improved (i stopped using the touch pad on my laptop and actually plugged a mouse in).  Finally, relief.  Which is good, b/c I have to be on my computer ALL DAY tomorrow.  Tonight I'm having a first date with S.  We've been group dating (think middle or high school) or not really dating and just hanging out.  But this is an actual date.

Also of note, is that I was talking to real life friend Laurie, and I would start conversation with, "So S blah blah blah."  As in, I would say "S" and not his real name.  Um, maybe I spend a little too much time reading blogs...

When triathletes break up

After spinning for 1.5 hours, running for 20 minutes, and not eating or drinking any water, you should not consume a bottle of wine.

I'm just saying.  I'm not hung over.  But I was drunk.  More drunk than I was all weekend partying and doing shots with my friends.  It was definitely from having come right from spin class, not expecting to actually go out (I was at nice bars in fleece pants and a sweatshirt-but I had showered!), and then not eating properly.  Don't do that.

Also, we did the VO2 max test again, and the winner, of the whole class...was a WOMAN who pedaled over 30 mph.  It.  Was.  AWESOME.

And finally, when triathletes break up, they have to return stuff.  Just like other people.  I returned summer triathlete boy's stuff last night at spin class.  So he got his bike light back.  Awwww.  Yes, he lent me his bike light.  How cute.

Bike fund and some daytime posting coherence

Posting pre-workout which is strange, but S will be over after spin class and I don't want to be like, hey, great to see you after not having done so for a while-just make yourself comfortable while I take a few minutes to step over to the computer.  Um, no.

The update is the wrist is feeling better.  If progress continues I'll try swimming again this weekend.

I need to stop signing up for things (see yesterday's post).

Every time I save money I think in the back of my head...BIKE FUND!  Like taking the subway to the airport instead of a cab at 5:45 AM for christmas vacation ($27 for the bike fund).  Walking instead of taking the subway today ($1.70 for the bike fund).  Using my Nalgene bottle instead of buying bottled water (lots of $$ for the bike fund!!)  Signing up for the MPRE (ethics test) before the early deadline ($60 for the bike fund!).  Using my CVS Extra Care bucks ($2.50 for the bike fund!).  So the bike fund is there.  I think I'm going in for step 1 of the tri bike adventure on Friday: the bike fitting.  Apparently from there the store staff can help me find an appropriate bike.

Must read law stuff (this will be the title for the foreseeable future)

As I've mentioned before, I'm on my building's fitness committee and we met for the first time tonight.  I voiced my thoughts: we need more treadmills, people need to respect the cardio machine time limits, and the pool is too cold (apparently this can't be changed b/c that would move us into a spa category which involves more chemicals).  I also said I really like the gym and give it the thumbs up!

I ran for 40 minutes.  I ran 20:00 minutes.  This brought me to the front of my old apartment.  I tried to look in the windows.  I hit the lap button.  Then I headed back to school.  Freaky how that was my turnaround point.

I think I'll be signing up for Rhode Island's inaugural 70.3 in July.  I know DC Rainmaker will be there!

I'M SO BUSY WITH LIFE.  But good busy.  But REALLY busy.  I also think I'm going to start teaching CPR again.  I've been an instructor for 10 years but I haven't really taught much for the past two years.  However, I miss teaching the material, I believe in the importance of people knowing CPR (this includes how to help people who are choking) as well as how to use AEDs (the machines that shock people), AND, it actually pays pretty well.  Please see last post about a major purchase.

EDIT:  Illustrating the crazy and/or mania side of me, I e-mailed my new contact agreeing to work for his company.  Then I got in the shower, got out, and immediately e-mailed him to say:  actually I'm a full-time student with three part-time jobs and I'm the president of a triathlon team so no, I cannot work for you, but thank you for the opportunity.  WHAT WAS I THINKING???  I feel better.  And look like an idiot.  I need more sleep.

Stop making running plans and start reading Natural Resource law

Spin class rocked.  Again.  As in it was fun.  I chatted with my neighbor.  However, I haven't been able to do the last two workouts.  My legs are tired.  I haven't biked hard twice a week since...ever.  In my life.  I am fatigued.  Sometimes (most of the time?) I can't hit the RPMs, MPHs, and/or gears I am supposed to be in.

I am buying a tri bike.  I am forgoing collegiate nationals (you don't have to qualify to go) and using that $$ for a tri bike.  My road bike is FINALLY shifting better though.  Finally.  The mechanic adjusted the outer limits of something and it will now shift into the bigger ring.

I'm starving.  More training=a hungry Audrey.

I am SO psyched.  I'm running in a Super Bowl 5K at noon and I invited lots of runners (some marathoners and some new) and they are coming too.  Pat, want to join us?  S is coming.  He doesn't run.  He has 10 days to train.  He is bringing another non-running friend.  The whole thing will be fun/hilarious and he is so excited.  I made a training program for him and he ran 1 mile tonight.

Then we will watch the superbowl and drink.  SEE, it is possible for the two of us to be compatible!
